VOYAGE: Folk Traditions Anew

Music
South Australia • World Premiere

After a successful 2022 Fringe season, come aboard a musical journey with Adelaide’s own Silk Strings Ensemble. Pairing three Chinese huqin with a cello in a quartet, they will embark on a voyage exploring folk and traditional music from around the globe in an intimate setting.

'Voyage: Folk Traditions Anew' is a 60 minute program featuring music from or inspired by folk traditions from across the globe and cultures. The diversity of music chosen originates from Asia, Europe, the Americas and Australia.

Celebrating the significance of folk and traditional music with a lush and unique soundscape paired with visual projections, the show offers audiences a fresh musical perspective of this global musical voyage.

Silk Strings is a 胡琴 (Hu Qin), or Chinese spike fiddle trio based in Adelaide, Australia. The material "silk" ties our instrument's history together, as well as countless many other instruments. Founded in 2021, we aim to expand and explore the art of Huqin chamber playing through existing Huqin repertoire, commissioning new works, or collaborating with other art forms across all cultures and fields.
