A mother and daughter set up a tent on the slopes of Mt Fuji to conquer the peak. The next morning, the mother finds her daughter is dead. Her effort to wake up the girl is fruitless.  A strange woman tells her that her daughter's spirit is now at the top of the mountain. To reach her again, she must become like her daughter. She begins an arduous journey to the land of the dead, a kind of metamorphosis…

Will the mother be able to retrieve her daughter's spirit?  Will she be able to save her?  What will she have to exchange for the spirit of her daughter?  Will she be able to come out
of the land of the dead unharmed?  Will she come out alone or with her daughter?  Who will make it out alive?
