A single female kneels with her eyes closed, as if in a trance. Moonlight shines over her shoulder, illuminating star dust all over her face, long flowing hair & body.
Aerial performer is holding her body in full splits across a giant metal crescent moon apparatus, which is suspended from the tent center stage and lit from behind.
Neo-punk style side-show performer with neon hair and safety googles is lying on their back on the stage, holding an angle grinder to a metal plate attached to their costume. Bright sparks are flying from the grinder across the stage, contrasting against dim purple and blue stage lights.

SOMNIA 2.022

Theatre and Physical Theatre • Cabaret
South Australia

After their successful debut season, 2.022 is bringing new cast members, more nights & an earlier session time (9:40pm), plus EXTRA DREAMS!

Inspired by the sleep disorder Narcolepsy, it is a haunting physical theatre - Part fantasy/part hallucination.

Featuring aerial, cabaret & sideshow performers, who bring the vivid dreams & nightmares of our sleeping protagonist to the stage.

★★★★★ "A riveting show which will, at times, shock you...It’s a great display of South Australian talents who have not gotten enough exposure, but are more than worthy of it. Definitely a show worth losing sleep over!" SeeDoEatReview

★★★★ “Sexy and macabre in the extreme - If you are looking for something intriguing, skillful and a little bit frightening, this is the show for you." Kryztoff

★★★★ The Advertiser

Please note: This event has had a venue change from 'Wonerland - Empire Theatre' to ' The Garden of Unearthly Delights - The Vault' since the Adelaide Fringe Guide was printed.

Presented by: SOMNIA

SOMNIA n. Dream shapes
Two of our cast members have the sleep disorder Narcolepsy: Sleepwalking, hallucinations, vivid dreams/nightmares & sleep paralysis are common symptoms, also exhaustion.
Neither want to let it hold them back though!

When creating this work, our Director discovered most of the cast had their own stories around sleep disturbances, meaningful dreams & inexplicable nighttime phenomena - and that these experiences could affect mental health in profound ways.
We are grateful for performance art as a means of catharsis & connection.

Many people who also struggle with a sleep disorder or night terrors connected with us after our debut season, further cementing our beliefs that creative expression & feeling less alone are important in finding the courage to carry on.

This event has changed venues since the guide has gone to print.
