Shanghai X Istanbul: Fusion Jazz Pop

The program unites Australian musicians from Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, Turkey and Australia for a brand new musical synthesis. It will weave together the music and instruments from two global music centres: Shanghai and Istanbul. From Turkish folk song and Arabesque to Chinese folk song and mandarin Shidaiqu (songs of the era), the program combines jazz and pop to celebrate the diverse and inclusive nature of Adelaide.

Silk Strings is an unique and Adelaide-based huqin (Chinese Fiddle) trio comprising of David Dai, Felix Wang and Lester Wong. This program will see them collaborating with Turkish vocal virtuoso Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Altıokand singer Joeryn Loh, as well as drummer Satomi Ohnishi, pianist Yundi Yuan, and bassist Tim Matthew.

This world premiere concert guarantees a great evening of sonic excitement and sensory voyage.

Among the performers are Silk Strings, an Adelaide-based huqin (Chinese Fiddle) trio ensemble. Comprising David Dai (Taiwan), Felix Wang (China), and Lester Wong (Singapore), the group is the only huqin ensemble in Adelaide, and possibly in Australia. Silk Strings performs as a trio and in collaboration with composers, musicians and artists of diverse backgrounds to foster intercultural and interdisciplinary explorations and art forms.

Also on stage will be Turkish vocal virtuoso Prof. Dr. Aysegul Altiok, Chinese singer Xinyi Fan, and others.
