Pala Gaan (Gomvira)

Gambhira is a Bengali folk tradition popular in Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh, combining narrative songs, dance, and rhythm, performed in groups with masks. Originating as a Shiva worship festival, it reflects ethnic and environmental influences, evolving from sun worship to Shiva Puja. Traditionally celebrated during Chaitra Sankranti, it now humorously depicts rural life through dialogues between a grandfather and grandson. Gambhira's tunes, once classical, now feature modern melodies. Natyam Repertory, founded on April 30, 2010, promotes Gambhira and other folk traditions through performances, workshops, and festivals like Pahela Baishakh and Nabanno. This nearly thousand-year-old tradition remains culturally significant, blending history, humor, and evolving art forms.
