Janis - The Life and Soul of a Rock Legend

Music • Blues & Roots
A vibrant and emotionally charged musical tribute to the woman who always wanted to 'feel' as much as she possibly could. 'Janis' pays homage not only to one of the greatest female icons of 60s 'rock n roll' and the 'Summer of Love', but also to some of her greatest musical inspirations. Come on a musical journey through the turbulent, tortured and yet inspired soul of blues-rock singer Janis Joplin. While her tragically short yet brilliant career was one marked by loneliness, heartache and blues, this inspiring performance by Samantha Hafey is guaranteed to rouse the universal spirit of Janis in us all.

"Hafey has it all. She does it all ... bearing [her] soul through the reflection of Janis Joplin ... absolutely and brilliantly" Goodvibesmelb.com.

Sam is a young emerging artist who is no stranger to challenging and engaging roles. Her artistic eclecticism is informed by her numerous diverse Uni performances in student theatre, film and music productions.

While always passionate about the Blues, it wasn't until a recent NYU study tour with the Monash Uni Popular Voice course, that she realised the depth of her affinity for the great female blues artists and their struggle to make it in a male dominated music industry. After a fortuitous side-trip to Haight Ashbury she became inspired by the passion of the 60s and Janis Joplin in particular and founded Wild Tongues Theatre as a vehicle to produce her vision.

Together with a team of talented and inspired artists, ‘Janis’ sensationally premiered at the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival
