If Fabrics Could Speak...

If fabrics could speak, what stories would they tell?

Explore an audio-described exhibition of artworks by Catherine Fitz-Gerald, inspired by our community's memories of fabrics.

Through this inclusive project, 30 diverse voices aged from 6 to 91, share the memories bound within the weft and warp of their fabrics through digital story-telling and a series of still-life images; memories of making, culture, family, learning, celebration and loss.

Free artist-led experiences are presented every Saturday between 11am-12pm, followed by chat time between 12pm-1pm.

Catherine Fitz-Gerald is a multidisciplinary, South Australian artist recognized for her masterful skills in handling light and luminous colour.

Her practice uses traditional oil painting, abstractions, installation and video, with research and inclusive community engagement, to illuminate issues important to the community.

Her work develops in a series of extended investigations, exploring the common threads that bind us. Curiosity and experimentation underpin her inclusive, expressive practice.

By taking the well-known genre of still life and gently pushing it into a different plane, her work challenges the viewer to pause and reevaluate everyday moments and objects.

"My mother is a dressmaker, my memories of her are intertwined with fabrics. I celebrate her creativity through my art form, paintings."

An award-winning artist, Catherine has participated in and curated many group and solo exhibitions.
