HITCHCOCK'S TROPES
Mark Metaphor meets the Master of Suspense. The MacGuffin. Hitchcockian mirrored twins. Blondes, brunettes and the ol’ bait & switch. The films of Alfred Hitchcock are filled with cinematic tropes: textbook examples of storytelling techniques that have shaped the way we all watch movies. With a lecture set to music-video remixes of Alfred Hitchcock films, Mark Metaphor will take you through the Hitchcockian concepts we can see in all sorts of cinematic examples. After a solid stint in clown-ish burlesque & MC hosting, Mark Metaphor returns to his multimedia presentation roots, reminiscent of earlier Fringe shows in his stand-up comedy career. Not only will you understand why Alfred Hitchcock is considered cinema’s most influential auteur, you will never watch a movie the same way again.
Presented by: Mark Metaphor
Alongside character-costume standup & being a Raw Comedy State Finalist in 2015, Mark Metaphor did his first solo Fringe show in 2016. GUNSLINGING GAME THEORY was multimedia on the mathematical psychology behind cowboy movie shootouts. 2017's GAMES PEOPLE PLAY was a semi-sequel to this - the history of games & sports in Hollywood cinema. In 2018, his NIGHTMARE AT 20,000 FEET was a pop-cultured retelling of Richard Matheson's Twilight Zone tale, which THE ADELAIDE REVIEW called "the work of a passionate movie/sci-fi/horror buff who actually reads books too." 2019’s project DAVID FINCHER @ 24fps was a remix tribute to his second-favourite film director. More recently, Mark Metaphor is a darling of the comedy burlesque scene, clowning around, hosting here & there, and showing off his humerus.
