HEDDA, NORA, JULIE AND ME

Theatre and Physical Theatre
Victoria • World Premiere

This new theatre piece, devised by the 2021/22 ensemble Amalia Krueger, Bianca Conry, Rhian Wilson, Verity Wood and Joachim Matschoss, is creating a fictional meeting between four heroines of the classical canon. Apart from the original plays (A Doll's House, Hedda Gabler, The Seagull and Miss Julie) we used letters between Ibsen and Strindberg, Chekov's diaries, short stories and other material to create this adaptation. and ultimately a vibarnt new theatre piece.

The piece is being presented by BYTE, an independent company that produces theatre dedicated to devised issue-based work nationally and internationally for many years. The piece is moving, comic and thought-provoking.

Presented by: BackYardTheatreEnsemble

Joachim Matschoss, born in Germany, now living in Melbourne/Australia. He is a playwright, poet and Theatre-maker. His Theatre Company, ‘Backyard Theatre Ensemble (BYTE)’ presents diverse pieces of theatre nationally and internationally.
Joachim has created theatre in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, India, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Taiwan, Switzerland and China.
Joachim is fascinated by creating work from scratch and is less interested in seeing a piece of theatre grow like a flower, but more so like a weed, something raw, something with cracks, and something that is challenging both the performer and the audience member. Joachim’s poetry is published in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA.
