Dancing Monsters invites community participants to explore post-anthropocentric ways of being through becoming / hosting a more-than-human “Monster,” often drawing inspiration from folk traditions.
The only criteria for the Monster is that is should honour or protect place, communities and their environmental settings
The practice has three main components:
1. We work with each participant to
- Explore identity of Monster through conceptualising relations with place and community.
- Explore the use of found and constructed materials to create a monster costume
- Musical and dance practices/rehearsals.
2. We work with participants to create text, image and video about their monster and its connection to place.
3. The practice culminates in procession of Monsters, Musicians and community
