Chekhov at the Pub

Theatre and Physical Theatre • Comedy

Directed by Andrew Jefferis.

Short plays and Monologues: silly, cruel and inspirational. Russian insults at their best. Black Cat Theatre is fully charged with old and new faces to perform these short pieces that helped build the 'Chekhov empire' across the globe. This came at a time when the Moscow Art Theatre was inventing the new 'science' of training actors. Chekhov despaired of his 'comic vaudevilles' but the audiences loved them. Stanislavski seized his plays and made him famous beyond belief. For decades this material has been used by aspiring performers to audition for new roles. Brimming with characters, meet young Nina, Popova, Lomov, Natalya and old Svetlovidov.

Pub offer: Buy a full meal, show your ticket for a free wine or beer. Join us for a shot of classic Russian. Na zdrowie.

Presented by: Black Cat Theatre

Black Cat Theatre presents a classic and experimental repertoire, usually in a pub setting. We meet every year for six months to develop and rehearse our material. We aim to position ourselves with something like a recognisable "play" or piece of theatre, character- filled. To delight, amuse and sometimes alarm. We call it a "beautiful piece of shiny art". we all work in other jobs by day...so this a labour of love. We mostly have various layers of theatre training in our past. We bring everything into the performing space and our production values are as high as is appropriate..for the back room of a noisy pub.. some will call us shabby chic..enjoy our evenings...
