Sam Matthewman, an Australian contemporary artist, explores the convergence of art and performance. Raised in Adelaide, their passion for performing and sculpting began at a young age.
After earning a Bachelor of Contemporary Art in 2021, Matthewman continues their education with mentors and courses. They also embarked on international residencies at the British School in Rome, shaping their multidisciplinary practice, which includes ceramics, cotton rope, installations, and filmed circus.
Their work delves into the intricate relationship between the body and materials. Matthewman is known for creating immersive installations that encourage tactile engagement. Their performances blend circus and physical theatre, drawing from acrobatics and clowning for expressive movements.
