Since the beginning of Adelaide Fringe, there have been an overwhelming number of enthusiastic volunteers who have generously dedicated their time to helping the largest arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere come to life!

During Fringe season (Feb and March) you can easily spot our wonderful volunteers around the festival. They help you to navigate the guide at Information Booths, and are always there to lend a hand at the bustling BankSA Fringe Corner Box Office.

You may even spot them at activations, such as in Fringe on Tour, or at special Fringe Members only events. Our volunteers operate in a range of areas, which include our Core Volunteer group, Access Support Volunteers who assist those with access needs, and our passionate Volunteer Photographers who capture shows, events and the lively atmosphere of Fringe!

Although Adelaide Fringe’s 2021 festival was downsized compared to previous years, due to COVID restrictions, we still had so many offers for volunteers to participate. This resulted in a massive group of 120 Adelaide Fringe volunteers, who completed an impressive 1,841 hours. Many of these volunteers had returned from previous years volunteering for the festival and we were more than happy to welcome them back with open arms. Meet one of our dedicated and passionate returning volunteers below!

Why did you volunteer with the Adelaide Fringe in 2021?

Love being part of the Adelaide Fringe and helping the public.

How many Adelaide Fringes have you volunteered at?

10 Fringe seasons

When volunteering, which is your favourite shift and why?

Volunteering at the Information Booth in Rundle Mall is my favourite and lots of fun. Helping the public make their decision which Fringe show or event to see after navigating the huge program.
Providing information to make their Fringe a fun experience.

For someone considering volunteering at the Adelaide Fringe in the future/next year, what would you recommend/say to them?

Adelaide Fringe volunteering is so worthwhile and fun.
You will be made to feel part of the team and supported.
Try various shifts, and roles. Be reliable and keen.
Experience some Fringe shows. Get involved with the Volunteer social catchups. Great way of meeting people.

Overall, 96% of Fringe Core and Access Volunteers that completed our post-festival survey rated their volunteering experience as a 4 (out of 5) or higher for 2021 - a great result! Familiar faces are also a common sight within the program with 65% of our Core and Access Volunteers this year made up of returning volunteers.
If you feel like joining these, and many other wonderful volunteers in the Adelaide Fringe volunteer program for 2022, sign up your expression of interest below. We look forward to Fringe-ing with you next year!
