The first round of Adelaide Fringe Grant Recipients has been announced with 164 grants being allocated at a value of $890,000.
 
This year’s grants have been made possible thanks to donations to the Adelaide Fringe’s philanthropic arm, Arts Unlimited, along with increased support thanks to Arts South Australia from the State Government following an election commitment by the Malinauskas Government.
 
Since first doing so in 2015, Adelaide Fringe has distributed more than 600 grants to artists.

This year, applicants could apply for a grant up to $10,000 to help launch their artistic ambitions or support daring and diverse contemporary art for new audiences.

Of the grants being awarded this year, 8.1% of shows self-identify as having cast and creatives that are First Nations, 20.7% have a lived experience of disability, 23.2% are culturally and linguistically diverse and 57.6% are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
 
Within the funds raised by Arts Unlimited, dedicated grants for First Nations Australians were designated for projects as part of a broader effort to increase the levels of participation, and prominence of First Nations creatives and producers across the Fringe landscape.
 
One recipient of these grants is Mali Isabel, who will present a new, interactive event of Aboriginal culture, art and music.
