Erin Fowler’s work is often very personal. She is also unashamedly willing to have a dialog about important female issues that are far too often experienced by so many members of the community but not spoken about publicly. True to form, she has done so once again. But on this occasion an ever present issue with a number of women about fertility and that physiological clock which prevents many women from becoming pregnant. This reviewer likes to call this sort of show Kitchen Table Theatre because it is highly relatable and often sparks discussion within the home. Her hugely successful 2019 project FEMME which won accolades including 2019 Adelaide Fringe - Best Dance Award, 2020 Adelaide Fringe – Made in Adelaide Award and then toured to Reykjavik, Edinburgh & Stockholm is a perfect example of her capacity to communicate social issues.
In regards to the performance itself, whilst being a heavy topic, she is very playful. It’s clear she chose not to approach the topic in a serious depressing way whilst still talking about the situation because she didn’t need to. To be honest, it was a surprisingly pleasant change of pace when discussing a serious social matter which can be triggering and very uncomfortable for some. And she does so marvelously. A truly magnificent performer who has mastery over space and form, she has brought to the stage the quality of performance she always does with all of her shows.
