Everything goes in this grotesque, burlesque show intended to shock your sense and sensibilities. From a first image of a clown-faced figure, prostrate, violated and exposed, sitting on a dunny, you know this is no Mary Poppins production. Always naughty, never nice, this drag queen variety, with origins in the clubs of New York, has some sublime, thrilling and surprising moments but is dragged back by too many disjointed, unfunny elements. Highlights are the high acrobatics, wacky juggling and glorious booty dancing to a throbbing soundtrack. World-weary, droll MC, Eric Shmalenberger bemoaned the fact that Covid social distancing rules have impacted the show’s ability to be more interactive and consequently disturbing. That might be a blessing for some but even so, if a dose of the outrageous and offensive is your entertainment cuppa tea, Blunderland should be high on your Fringe hit-list.
