Sometimes you don’t realise how quickly you’re moving through life until someone reminds you to slow down, take a deep breath and relax. In Someday – A Mindful Cabaret, singer/songwriter Jennifer Trijo, with the help of the amazingly talented Jakub Gaudasinski and Amber Fibrosi, takes you on a mindful musical journey of self-awareness and clarity through uplifting original songs.

Set in the darkened Breakout Room at The Mill (Angas Street), you are set up for a cathartic experience. And as Jennifer, Amber and Jakub hit the stage, we are told to sit up straight, relax and ease into the music that will be caressing our ears for the next 60 minutes. The songs are designed to make you think, feel, and, in some instances, change your negative behaviour, giving you a positive mindset which in turn makes a positive change to those around you. Jennifer changes up her musical style often. One song is sung in a Jason Mraz style while another has a faster Latino beat to it. One song which particularly struck a chord with me (pun intended) was a country-sounding number, titled What If? it highlights Jennifer and Amber’s voices and shows that not only are they, great singers, on their own, but as a duet, they are truly magical. I also can’t finish this review without mentioning Jakub and his masterful musical talents. This man can bring you to tears playing the electric cello, ramp it up a notch while beating the Cajon (musical box), and then dial it back again performing on the keyboard. What added to his performance was how emotive he was while playing all these instruments.

I loved the stripped-back beauty of Someday – A Mindful Cabaret. It’s raw, it’s real, and is a great display of the amazing musical talents we have here in South Australia. Support local artists, take a deep breath and relax with this wonderful show.
