Power duo Circus Sorbet are back with an all new circus show paying tribute to the world of spy cinema. Suave Bond-esque agents, Russian femme fatales, a global terrorism plot and political intrigue? Spyhard has it all wrapped up in a breathtaking two-person acrobatic extravaganza.

Real-life couple Anthony and Faye star as English secret agent Antonio Tranderas and Russian operative Faytasha Romanov. The show’s premise is a comedic sendup of spy story cliches. Our two leads engage in amusing partner acts lampooning the classic sequences of all great spy films, from infiltrating the enemy base, sneaking past security, and battling henchmen with kung fu. As the show progresses, it revels in its set pieces showing off the circus mastery of its two leads. The action is plentiful and impressive. Not only do the two leads have great chemistry, but they also boast incredible physical abilities across multiple apparatuses and partner acrobatics. Both are given ample opportunity to show off their mastery in the air and their comic timing on the ground. Some memorable examples include Faye somersaulting and flipping on her straps, and Anthony freestyling on the aerial rope.

For a show with relatively limited furnishings and simple props, it’s amazing how far Circus Sorbet can push their concept to fresh heights. The mannerisms and executions of the two characters are pitch perfect, and the duo make space to perform in mediums usually overlooked in circus such as breakdancing and simulated fight sequences, Even the transitions between apparatuses is given consideration; two incredibly memorable scenes stand out where a grappling gun being fired reveals a rope descending from the ceiling, and a thrilling helicopter escape is simulated through a hysterical duo straps routine.

Spyhard might not have the most original premise, but that hardly holds it back from delivering an absolutely solid piece of entertainment. Both leads are in top form and put their bodies on the line with one strengthy combo or high-energy sequence after another, with nary a breath in between. A lot of care has gone into the show and the result is an arresting, cinematic achievement in circus. All with just two performers.

An action-heavy love letter to blockbuster cinema and classic spy thrillers, Spyhard is all adventure, thrills and a whole lot of fun.
