3 Pigs
Domain Theatre at Marion Cultural Centre Sat 22 March, 2025.
You get 3 pigs, the obligatory wolf, bricks, straw(s) and stick(er)s. As you can see, there’s some creative
interpretation of the classic tale, but that’s what you’d expect from a Fringe show.
The three pigs bicker and squabble as siblings do, revealing their individual flair and foibles. There’s the
organised pig, the burlesque-esque beauty queen pig, and the insatiable hungry pig, who all work
harmoniously on their great escape to freedom. Then they come up against the real challenge. Enter the
hungry, humorous, yet menacing wolf, who’s primal instincts get the better of him, leading to the blowdown we all know.
Soaring solos, and well-timed gags demonstrate the talents of the artists who have converged to make this
show. Particularly impressive was the vocal performance of the charismatically sinister wolf and the poised
stage presence of the beauty queen pig. Both commanded their roles comfortably and set the bar higher
than you might typically expect from a children’s show.
The production is modest in regard to props and lighting but sufficiently equipped to take you on the journey.
This is about the characters on stage, and their ability to sing and perform to create the magic, laughter and just a little bit of fear. Importantly, for a children’s show, the content is engaging enough for all ages, and parents should walk out of this with a smile on their faces too.
Fans of musical theatre will undoubtedly appreciate the vocal prowess and lively energy of this engaging
and entertaining production.
