*note: the following review concerns the show’s final performance on March 22*

Some experience the fear of being exposed. Others have an innate fear of rejection. Still others fear public speaking. The Big Naked Comedy Show says screw fear, let’s combine them for an hour and see how it goes!

Hosted in The Piglet, an open-air venue at Gluttony, this late-night comedy performance brings together a revolving lineup of 4 comedians for an hour-long show. MC Paul Savage bears it all and sets the tone of the night by first and foremost, getting naked. Handling the surplus of crowd hecklers, as should be expected at an 11:30pm show, Paul does well to get the audience pumped up.

It takes a considerable amount of courage to perform naked in front of strangers, something that each comedian should be proud of. However, as with all kinds of comedy and a continually changing roster of comedians, some senses of humor don’t fully hit the mark and connect as desired.

Many audience interactions proved to be more awkward than funny, whilst several jokes fumbled the bag with lengthy set ups and weak punchlines. Though each performer is given the same amount of time, some sets certainly felt much longer than others, with topics like embracing misogyny, period blood, and p***philia taking up far too much airtime. This led more than a few Fringe-goers to leave mid-performance, disappointed at the payoff for such heavy topics or finding the content not as amusing as hoped for.

It may not have all the laughs you expect, but The Big Naked Comedy Show certainly pushes boundaries.
