The gaming/comic world is different from the outside world. Insular but very welcoming, it doesn't matter who you are, what you do, or what you identify as; you're always made to feel equal at these types of events. Cirque Du Cosplay mixes video games and comics with cosplay and art to produce a show where everyone gets to laugh, have fun, and bring their favourite characters to life. I may not have known who half the video game characters were, but I sure had a great time watching the performances. We're treated to double hosting duties at Cirque Du Cosplay. The devious Doctor Diana (Octavius) Divine and Starling (Link) Strix play off each other rather effortlessly, with Starling championing the video game side of things while Divine handles the comic book side of the equation. Throughout a fairly fast-paced hour, the audience is treated to a pop culture cabaret of entertainment. After Strix opened the show with a homage to Legend of Zelda's Link, it was a foursome routine that really brought Cirque Du Cosplay to life. It was a Pokémon battle for the ages as Sebastian Wolf (Pikachu) and Frankie Fox (Rapidash) battled it out before being joined onstage by Evie Eerie and Dylan XXXTC. It's hard enough to get a duo to perform in sync, let alone a foursome, but these Pokémon performed almost flawlessly and set the tone for the rest of the show. Throughout the evening, we were treated to Heidi Gun as Pyramid Head, Sarah Z as Jinx, Phoebe Ophidia as Ratatouille, and Saskia as the Alien Queen. All very unique and all with remarkable costumes, it was a veritable visual feast. Of course, with Seedoatreview coming from a comic book background, I did particularly enjoy seeing Kitty Obsidian as Black Cat (the slander of the character notwithstanding). And I can't forget to mention one of my favourite performers, Fawn Phoenix as Kitana. With light-up fans, lyra, and flames, she closed the show with a bang, bringing this Mortal Kombat character to life in only the way Fawn Phoenix can. Forget the big, loud, shouty shows; Cirque Du Cosplay was the perfect 11 pm Friday night experience that I love. It's chill, fun, and full of jokes that people in the gaming and comic community understand and enjoy. A little piece of nerdy paradise where everyone is welcome! ****1/2 Four and a Half Stars
