Lyndsay Prodea lights up the stage in Friends of Dorothy: Anthems of Pride, a high-energy, feel-good celebration of LGBTQIA+ history through music. Backed by a brilliant live band—Jack on drums, Peter on keyboard, Lewis on bass, and Makayla on guitar—Prodea delivers a sensational, upbeat performance filled with humour, heart, and powerhouse vocals.

At its core, this show is more than just a musical tribute; it’s a deeply personal reflection on Prodea’s own journey of growing up and coming out. Using the metaphor of a babushka doll, he beautifully illustrates the experience of slowly revealing his true self, a small person inside waiting to emerge. This heartfelt storytelling adds emotional depth to an already electrifying show, making the audience laugh, cheer, and even reflect on their own experiences.

The musical mash-ups are nothing short of hilarious, seamlessly blending queer anthems into unexpected, joyous combinations. Each song is carefully chosen to resonate with the LGBTQIA+ community, weaving in themes of resilience, self-acceptance, and celebration. Alongside the fun, Prodea also acknowledges the queer coping strategies of the 20th century, paying tribute to historical LGBTQIA+ figures and the ways they found strength through music and community.

Supported by a Mental Health Commissioner’s grant, Friends of Dorothy: Anthems of Pride highlights the vital connection between music, identity, and mental well-being. Prodea’s honest reflections on his own struggles and triumphs reinforce the importance of visibility and support for LGBTQIA+ individuals. His ability to balance humour with heartfelt storytelling creates an emotionally rich experience, reminding audiences of the resilience within the LGBTQIA+ community.

With soaring vocals, dazzling energy, and an undeniable connection with the audience, Friends of Dorothy: Anthems of Pride is a must-see. Prodea’s honesty, humour, and sheer talent create an unforgettable experience, celebrating LGBTQIA+ identity and history while championing mental health awareness.
