Are you a narcissist? Are you sure? Is the world screwing you over and it’s kind of your fault? Adelaide’s own Taylor Nobes has been through the darkest place of the human mind, and through the endless tunnel of complete hopelessness. But out of the darkness shines this, her returning Fringe show The Heart May Or May Not Go On.

Cast in shades of reds and blues as the show progresses through her life, Nobes touches on the ways music threads itself through the most formative moments of her life. Featuring original songs and comedic but raw storytelling, she details the struggle many performers face: the crushing expectations you place upon yourself. Combined with the highly critical treatment of the industry, Nobes shows how the arts can be both the problem and the solution.

The Heart May Or May Not Go On is a welcome but harsh reminder of the impact of mental health and abuse in the arts (themes referenced will be troubling for many, including explicit discussion of suicide). But despite these overpowering emotional struggles, Nobes’ stunning show is a standing reminder of the power of art, and the beauty that can be made.
