Watching a comedian I've never seen before while being the only person sitting in the front row can go two very different ways. If they're not funny, you'll find yourself politely smiling for the next 60 minutes while trying not to let them see you looking at your watch. If it goes great, however, you'll be laughing it up for an hour and participating in the tomfoolery happening on stage. Thankfully for Seedoeatreview, it was the latter, and boy oh boy, was there a lot of tomfoolery to be had with Blake Everett in Kindly Remove Your Shoes.

As the title suggests, Blake Everett asks you to take your shoes off when you enter the Drama Llama in the Rhino Room. He provides you with slippers in exchange and even has blankets, pillows, and other paraphernalia on the seats. The blankets and pillows are for the audience's comfort, but it's the paraphernalia that plays a vital part in the show. It's fast-paced, hectic, and often confusing (in a good way) as we take a deep dive into the weird mind of Everett and see the insanity start from his very own bedroom. Cowboy gunfights, Americanised stand-up and a game of Aussie rules footy are all played. And if you ever want to know what pressure feels like, I was told that the show wouldn't continue until I found Where's Wally in a picture book. Standing up on stage with two other audience members trying to find the bespectacled neer do well took a good few minutes, but we got it done.

Everett has a very unique take on comedy. His stories may start off bizarrely, but by the end of the show, every joke, peculiar or otherwise, falls into place perfectly. It also helps when you have a raucous, interactive crowd who are up for anything. Take your shoes off, put your slippers on, and enjoy!

****1/2 Four and a half stars.
