Zak Vasiliou takes us through an autobiographical crash course into his journey of coming out as a gay man, with a spritz of sass and drama in his debut theatrical stand-up comedy show.

We’re led through a very well documented presentation on all the defining moments and obvious cues that Vasiliou’s parents inherently missed when he was growing up as a child, with all signs pointing to his queer identity.

Now, being a gay man has its complexities. With so many terms to refer to different types of gay men, where do you start? Never fear, Vasiliou has you covered with a crash course of the many terms within the gay community, broken down as simply as possible.

Reference point after reference point, all of the moments land exceptionally well, with the ideal level of suspense and pauses. From the retrospective timeline featuring video snapshots and photos, to the intimate recollection of some of his childhood memories, there’s never a dull moment.

There’s a huge twist near the end of the show where he reveals all about his alleged twink status and how the gay community would consider him as, which is a twist that is hilariously unexpected.

That isn’t the only twist though at the end, as there’s another one which draws reference to some past trauma towards a particular vegetable. Tying this punchline from start to end was brilliant (and very gay of course).

Did I mention that Vasililou is a theatre kid at heart? If a modern Disney classic performed entirely in Greek is something which tickles your fancy, then you better head on down to see this magnificence in the flesh.

Twinky Twinky Little Star is an autobiographical queer comedy show at its greatest. With a multitude of twists, turns, and countless edgy punchlines, Vasiliou has nailed their debut show. This one’s for the gays, the queens, and the gals (and I guess the heterosexuals too..).
