A world premiere for Gluttony at Adelaide Fringe is PRIMAL the new show from creators of the popular Rouge. An adult circus cabaret show that was full of high-flying acrobatic swings and jumps by a cast of talented performers along with the powerhouse live vocals by Leather Lungs. The show has already won an Adelaide Fringe Weekly Award and its obvious why: the creators have curated a show of the best performers who have a strong comradery and love of performing together.
Starting the show with the heartfelt and operatic-like vocals of Leather Lungs who got you hooked from the first note. The live singing performances especially the hauntingly beautiful traditional Māori song added a melodic and at times moving sentiment to the high paced acrobatics element of PRIMAL.
Without performers you don’t have a show but when you have great performers you have a phenomenal show! Sian Brigid who is not a stranger to me as I’ve seen her in other shows was amazing as usual on the hoops, sword swallowing and fire eating. Last time I described her as ‘steely no nonsense’ and that hasn’t changed!
Emily Loe describes herself as a ’mover and groover’ and what a pocket rocket full of power is she! Holding up on her shoulders not one but two performers was just crazy. I’m lucky if I can have a handbag on one of my shoulders! Her acrobatic skills of flips, somersaults and ball juggling (not all at the same time) was a delight to watch too!
Kat O’Keefe was also a power of strength having performer Paul O’Keefe jump, balance and stomp all over her body like it was nothing. Not even once flinching. Like all the performers multi-talent was on show and her swings and spins on the silks wowed the crowd.
Paul O’Keefe added the element of fun and cheekiness with his trapeze and silks skills. As part of the three performers on the silks along with Kat O’Keefe and Tro Griffins it was sensual and stunning. Tro with his skills of contortion and straps was sublime with Leather Lungs vocals in the background adding extra suspense and emotion to the performance.
PRIMAL is a show that had so much to like and love. The skills of jump, balance and tumble left you in awe. There’s fire eating, sword swallowing, circus acrobatics, cheeky striptease, dance routines, silk ropes and trapeze, plus a whole lot of fun! Its elegant and poised on one hand then rocky and raunchy on the other. Either way you leave The Octagon wooed and wowed!
