Adelaide Fringe Review: Creating Botanical Themed Pottery Art Plates

Show name: Creating Botanical Themed Pottery Art Plates

Presented by: SGC Art Studio

Venue: SGC Art Studio

Performance dates: Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday until 23rd March

⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

Not your typical Adelaide Fringe experience, SGC Art Studio’s Creating Botanical Themed Pottery Art Plates, allows you to be the artist. During this workshop, participants create either one large or two small plates, customising them with their own botanical design. The 2-hour session begins with a quick demonstration, allowing you the rest of the time to work on your own creation. Through utilising plant cutoffs, which are pressed into the clay, and applying coloured glaze to bring the imprints to life, the options are endless. At the end of your session, the studio collects your plates so they can be glazed and fired in the kiln. After four weeks, your creations will be ready to be picked up and enjoyed.

As someone who attended this event by myself, I found the process to be very meditative and relaxing. Set in a welcoming, open space, and music in the background, the tone was set and I was locked in. With the option to bring in your own botanicals for your design, you can truly create something special and those who like to plan ahead can easily do so. If you don’t consider yourself great at art, don’t worry - this workshop is adaptable for all skill levels. If you’re a beginner, you can create simple designs and use a limited colour palette, or if you’re a more advanced potter, you can go wild with the design you create. During the four-week firing process in the kiln, the studio applies a special glaze which makes your design food safe.

This workshop is perfect for small groups and individuals. If you are someone who likes to get creative or if you want to try something new, this workshop is perfect for all skill levels. SGC Art Studio’s Fringe event, Creating Botanical Themed Pottery Art Plates, is running until the 23rd of March on specific dates. If you miss the Fringe season or loved the session so much you need more of it, don’t stress - SGC Art Studio runs a range of unique art classes all year round. Be sure to check out this one-of-a-kind experience.
