Garry Starr – Classic Penguins ★★★★☆
Literature, boring to some right? Especially those worn out old Penguin Classics like “Moby Dick”, “The Great Escape” and “The Little Prince”. Well prepare to be informed otherwise, as Garry Starr convinces us that even worn out old books can be wickedly entertaining, with his wild retellings!
From the moment Starr swivels his arm chair round on the stage pipe in hand (very Bond villain-esque in style) with his tailcoat jacket, Elizabethan neck collar, top hat and not much else, his infectious energy and offbeat charm immediately grabs your attention.
The show is a brilliant mix of physical slapstick comedy, clever wordplay, and absolute absurdity. Starr’s comedic timing is impeccable, and he keeps the audience in stitches throughout the performance with his wildly creative antics and witty satire.
Starr’s one-man performance is a true testament to his versatile talent, and it’s clear he’s having as muchdebaucherous fun as the audience, who are more than willing participants in his mayhem! Once you get past the shock of nudity this show is marvellously hilarious and put together masterfully – it may even inspire you to reread some of these wonderful classic novels. So check your morals at the door and prepare to laugh until it hurts, while Starr takes you through his interpretation of Penguin Classics.
Currently showing at La Cascadeur at The Garden of Unearthly Delights until the end of the Adelaide Fringe Festival. This show has been so popular that extra performances have been added!
