Over the years, Adelaide has produced some incredible performers, many who have gone on to pursue professional careers in music, musical theatre, cabaret, and more. In Broadway Off-Broadway, homegrown stars reunite for a celebration of iconic musical theatre tunes. Emma Kavanagh, Callum Warrender, Stephanie Cole, Jayden Prelc and Maddie Apacible showcase their significant vocal and dance talents in a range of solo numbers, duets and group numbers, and featured dance moments.

This concert features traditional musical theatre favourites from Frozen, Phantom of The Opera, Mary Poppins, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables, and Wicked, to name a few. While one or two moments felt as though another rehearsal would have been beneficial, such as some clunky tempo changes in In His Eyes (Jekyll & Hyde) and one rather confusing moment in the finale ensemble number, there were plenty of stunning musical moments. A few of the standout numbers include Callum Warrender’s rendition of This Is The Moment (Jekyll & Hyde), and his duet with Emma Kavanagh singing All I Ask of You (Phantom of The Opera, which also featured a stunning lyrical dance by Jayden Prelc and Maddie Apacible, and Stephanie Cole’s stunning version of On My Own (Les Miserables).

The songs were supported by a live band featuring Jack Strempel on keys, Louis Cann on double bass, and Steve Staben on drums. They supported the vocals while never overpowering or pulling focus.

The lead cast were joined by an ensemble of local Adelaide performers for the rousing final number, One Day More from Les Miserables, showing just a small segment of the remarkable talent that is nurtured in Adelaide’s youth theatre schools and the community theatre scene.

For an hour of brilliant vocals and a set list of your favourite musical theatre tunes, Broadway Off-Broadway is an excellent choice.
