The Messy Magic Adventure is a comedic adventure of two friends, Spray and Wipe, who enjoy their job as cleaners. However, don’t go in expecting the same level of magic you might find in a lot of the other family magic shows on offer this Fringe.

The show follows the story of Spray and Wipe, who are contract cleaners tasked with cleaning a magician’s house. Anything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and by the end they are left in a chaotic mess.

Spray and Wipe are certainly engaging and know how to entertain the young audience through gags, slapstick and lots of audience participation. Misheard or miss interpreted words create a hilarious foundation for hi-jinx that leave the younger members of the audience in fits of giggles.

For a show with the word “magic” in the title, you would expect a fair bit of magic. However, it wasn’t until 25 minutes into the 45 minute show that the first real trick was performed…and even then, part of the reveal backfired and the audience saw how it was done. After this, there were only a few other tricks to round out the show. The show relied heavily on Spray and Wipe’s excellent circus and slapstick skills

For families with young children, this is certainly an entertaining, safe and family-friendly show. There is lots of mess (the front row is supplied with a protective plastic shield…just in case) and lots and lots of silliness. Just don’t expect the same level of magic that you might find in other shows.
