Bringing his show, Hugh Sheridan – My Way, to the Adelaide Fringe three years ago was an achievement in itself, especially given the turbulent year that preceded it. Between a family death, a breakup, and the controversy surrounding his cancelled portrayal of Hedwig, Sheridan had been put under immense pressure — a gross understatement, to say the least. While ambitious, that show lacked cohesion and often felt scattered, leaving an overriding sense of “why?”—a question that lingered alongside the frustration of unfulfilled potential from a performer who seemed capable of so much more.

 


Fast forward to this year’s Fringe, and with Something Big, it’s as if Sheridan has undergone a complete artistic rebirth. His latest offering at The GC – Grand Central Arts Theatre in Adelaide is a stark contrast to his previous show — like night and day...
