It started with me walking down Rundle Street for the gazillionth time heading to the Adelaide Fringe to review yet another show. A voice shouted out from an open car window “Hey Seedoeatreview, what you up to?”, belonging to none other than circus artist and aerialist Georgia Rose, a performer that I’d watched and admired in past Fringe years but had no idea that she knew who I was. A quick, friendly chat led to an invite to come see her performing in Shake It Burlesque, a show that had been around for many years but, I was told, had really ramped up the ‘wow factor’ in 2025. On Saturday night I found myself sitting in the front row of Shake It, and I wouldn’t use the word ‘wow’ to describe the performances but instead (in abbreviated form) OMFG!

Hosted by the delightfully endearing Minnie Andrews, Shake It started with a bang and never let up until the final goodbye. Minnie has a sweet innocence onstage, and her MC work really makes the audience feel welcomed and appreciated. The aforementioned Georgia Rose was first onto the stage and, once again, it was her aerial work that had the crowd screaming in excitement. There are not many performers who can tame the lyra (aerial hoop) as well as Georgia Rose can. Next to the stage was Juniper Falls, a Scottish burlesque dancer who performed to Prince’s Raspberry Beret. After her saucy act was over, she only had the beret left in her hand. I’d seen aerial/acro master Jace onstage before, but never in the Shake It light. In this show, he went double duty performing a business-casual boylesque aerial routine before bringing down the house with Madonna’s Like A Prayer and a hula hoop act that needs to be seen to be believed.

Shake It has a star-studded cast of performers, and I could rave on about Sebastian Wolf’s devilishly delicious boylesque act (that sends a message to the church), or Sara Martini talking to her mother (on the phone) whilst performing a cheeky burlesque act, but the absolute highlight for me in this show was hearing Minnie Andrews belting out Callum Scott’s Dancing On My Own whilst Georgia Rose performed on the aerial rope. It was a thing of absolute beauty and probably my favourite single act of 2025.
