DISCO WONDERLANDThe Peacock at GluttonyWed 17.03.2021

If you thought that disco was dead, well then think again.Disco Wonderland jam-packed their 60 minute show with hit after hit, produced with the kind of professionalism that we come to expect from these gifted performers.

Four vocalists, a dancer and a tight 5 piece combo delivered an almighty punch that the 500 strong crowd embraced with giddy-like enthusiasm. There was a constant flow of good energy on stage, with all performers displaying their incredible vocal skills, together with polished movement.

We are all familiar with the wonderful voice of Paulini, who excited us with her costumes, vocal range and particularly her upper register, as well as an epic version of Earth Wind & Fire’s “Fantasy”. Timomatic can move like a graceful athlete, whilst singing a gentle ballad such as “If You Could Read My Mind”. His tribute to Michael Jackson showed off his velvety voice, falsetto and moon walking, which the crowd loved.  Phillipa Lynas was a revelation. She had attitude, sang beautifully and moved about the stage as if she owned it. Her work with Paulini on “It’s Raining Men” was a standout, with rich accurate harmonies, intensity and movement, but also merged Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” with Rose Royce’s “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”, adapting the feel of the songs to reflect an introspective, sultry blend. Mark Stefanoff wowed the crowd with his huge voice and slightly dangerous trapeze work. His version of the Candi Staton hit “Young Hearts Run Free” was a joy to behold, as was his involvement in all things. Everyone moved about the stage in a polished, well-rehearsed choreographed sequence that was very enjoyable to watch.

Special mention must be made to Amelia Szanzo, who danced divinely, creating points of distraction for the singers to catch their breath, yet enthralling the audience with her grace and physicality. Her presence tied all the songs together and made the performances seamless.

Fantastic performances, excellent band, great dancing, big voices and killer songs make this a brilliant way to spend an hour at the Fringe. This is one show you should not miss.
