Are you hungry for a 5-star Fringe show? Definitely NOT A Hungry Game: A Parody Musical has got you covered! Casting an unmentioned hit YA series through a Gen Z and Aussie lens, the show brings together stunning vocals, exquisite choreography, and passionate acting for a truly unforgettable performance.

Setting the scene in District 12, AKA the “Tasmania of Panem”, the show kicks off by introducing audiences to self-acclaimed main character Katniss, played by Freya Moore, as well as her fellow district tribute… Patrick? Pedro? Parker? (Tom Kelly). Audiences follow Katniss as she battles her way through The ****** Games, surviving an acid-trip-like experience from tracker jacker venom, witnessing her brain-rotted friend Rue die, and finally remembering Peeta’s name. With her alcoholic Mom (Alexandra Gonzalez), molly-addicted little sister Prim (Madeleine Palmer) and true-blue Aussie boyfriend Gale (Jordan Batten) watching back home, Katniss and Peeta make it all the way to the end of the games.

With an 18-song original score and on-point choreography, the show pays tribute (wink wink) to the source material whilst maintaining an exuberantly high level of humour. A core part of the show is its jokes and references, featuring everything from game character death sounds and late 2000s Disney shows to modern day musicals and memes that defined a generation.

The cast themselves are all true testaments to their craft as singers, actors, and dancers, remaining in character even when they’re not the main focus of the musical number. The show holds space for each performer, giving them time in the spotlight and allowing their distinct characters, or perhaps lack thereof, to really shine through. One of the highlights of the show is Robbie Alexander, fruitfully filling the role of Effie, the sassy Capitol representative with a killer mug, stunning dance skills, and witty one-liners. Also acting as the show’s director, choreographer, and score co-creator, Robbie brings vibrant energy and wild charisma to his role.

This self-aware, terribly Gen Z musical parody is truly a stand out of the 2025 Adelaide Fringe season. With only 5 more shows left, get your tickets now to Definitely NOT A Hungry Game: A Parody Musical. And may the odds be etcetera, etcetera!
