I love a “true” ghost story. Living through someone else’s experience with the spirit world. I’m a skeptic; I’ve also been called sensitive. However, there are things science and biology may have an answer for rather than the spiritual. Tales from the Other Side appealed to my cynical nature. Can I cerebrally poke holes in the stories?

The first scary thing you’ll encounter is the 45-degree-angle stairs—two flights, mind you. These stairs, a unique venue feature, set the tone for the eerie experience that awaits. The venue, Curiositeas, is a quaint space with its unique charm, and it would have been spooky if the curtains had been drawn and the lights turned off, with only the lamp looming over Sarah.

The seating isn’t uniform, but you wouldn’t want it that way for a night of supernatural tales. The variety in seating arrangements adds to the venue’s appeal and allows you to choose a spot that best suits your comfort and viewing preferences. You want to nestle into a comfy armchair with a cup of tea or glass of wine while you sit back and allow yourself to be regaled.

Sarah Stewart’s engaging storytelling, as she explains that she comes from a long line of female sensitives and that her first encounter with a spirit was as a child, had me drawn in. I eagerly awaited another story from her life. In between her life experiences, she often asks if the audience has anything they cannot explain in their lives. One in particular was about the supernatural and their affinity for bathrooms. Sarah asked if I had an unexplained encounter in the bathroom. With my husband next to me, I did want to say, “I leave the toilet seat down, and when I go back later in the day, it’s back up again!” Then, I thought better of it and just shook my head.

One thing that did irk me to tears was the latecomers; rude! I did notice this morning on the Fringe website that latecomers will not be permitted to attend Sarah’s show. Good for her!

Did I find the show entertaining? Yes. Should you buy yourself a ticket? Absolutely. Please don’t allow my skepticism to ruin your Fringe experience.
