Bubbleologist Maxwell loves bubbles. And if you don’t, you might just change your tune by the end of his show. Maxwell’s wonderment, devotion, and understanding of bubbles is at a level you probably thought impossible, yet here he is, at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe, delighting and captivating audiences with extraordinary feats, amazing surprises, and gentle yet strong adoration for his craft.

You’d also be forgiven for thinking that one full hour of bubble blowing would be a bit too much. I mean, just how many tricks can someone do with bubbles, I hear you ask? Well, the answer is, tons. And plenty more than enough to fill a 60-minute show.

As a middle-aged man with kids, I thought I’d seen it all when it comes to bubble blowing acts, so I attended Maxwell’s show expecting to see perhaps slight variations of the same old things again. I’m pleased to say that I was very wrong. My jaw sat open for much of the show, and my son even commented that I looked like a kid.

I genuinely loved this show. Needless to say, so did my 3 kids. Everything we witnessed was amazing, and at some stages even beautiful and soul-nourishing.

The Vault at Fool’s Paradise is an excellent venue which is perfectly suited to the aerial and acrobatic component of Maxwell’s performance. He doesn’t do it alone though, and much credit should be given to his counterweight counterpart, who literally does all the heavy lifting.

Sometimes taking kids to Fringe events can be a bit hit and miss. Some acts don’t live up to expectations, and even some of the expensive shows can feel lacking occasionally. So, if you want a show that’s guaranteed to amuse yourself and your little ones, get them along to The Flying Bubble Show and enjoy the wonder with them.
