Come on, who doesn’t love bubbles? I knew I had to go when I spotted the Adult Bubble Show posters! As I saw it, you have the whimsy of bubbles combined with an M rating. This show has to be good.

Oh, and how good it was! It was grown-up funny and even grown-up fun. At first, I leaned over to my Fringe partner and asked if they would let their somewhat mature 11-year-old see this show. The answer was, “Hmmmm, yeah.” By the end of the show, it was a firm no.

I found myself watching the two talented artists form their bubbles just like I watched the fireworks on New Year’s Eve—on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next impressive bubble creation or a giant bubble filled with a number of smaller bubbles. I felt empathy for the artist when a planned bubble burst or failed to appear.

You will sit in your seat wide-eyed, with a silly grin stuck to your face as if you’ve seen bubbles for the first time. You won’t know you’re doing it, but you will — so much so that the muscles in your cheeks will be a touch sore when you walk out.

Oh, and it’s not just about the most amazing giant bubbles you will have ever seen; the adult content added spice to the performance. What do I mean? I can’t tell you; it’ll ruin everything, but I’ve never seen a male appendage made of bubbles. That one had the crowd in hysterics!

You will reach out to catch bubbles as they’re blown out to the audience, just like you would have done as a child. You catch this delicate sphere, willing it to stay whole on your hand, and the tiny feeling of genuine disappointment as it bursts is reminiscent of childhood. I recommend a seat in the first few rows for the entire experience.

What is It with Bubbles? Why do they still hold a fascination for us?

The Adult Bubble Show is a late-night show in Gluttony, so it’s well worth staying up past bedtime.
