Kay receives a phone call from her father. “You have to clear out your bedroom. Mum wants to make it into a sewing room” he tells her.

So begins the journey through the past for Kay Proudlove. As Kay goes through her wardrobes, drawers and boxes she discovers her teen diary and it invokes memories, memories of first kisses, Girlpower, forming at band, fan fiction and “hot” boys. As one knows, it can bring up all sorts of emotions looking at a diary as an adult.

Part musical, part comedy, Kay is an accomplished Western Australian singer songwriter. The songs she has written for the show are funny and poignant, and well sung. The show is often nostalgic and I found it often hitting a bit too close to home with my youth. Sometimes it can be a bit painful looking back at growing up, the memories of frayed friendship as an example.

But in the end Kay clears her room, but what to do with all the belongings? Well, that is for you to check out.

Kay Proudlove is a natural story teller and songster. The show is a ride of emotions and you should join her for her “ride”. While mostly set in the 1990’s early 2000’s, I found it also related to me, albiet some 35 years earlier.
