Zella is dead. Fortunately, her comic timing is not. Stuck in limbo, somewhere between life and death, she must face her fears and try every trick in the book to get to the other side.

Zella is a pro at holding the audience’s attention, and is clearly used to working a crowd. The show was fast paced and very funny, with bird-related antics galore and cleverly rewritten musical parodies. Zella’s classically-trained voice shone in the aria for the bird funeral (the climax of a side-splittingly funny sequence), but was less suited to many of the more modern songs included in the show, including a variety of pop songs as well as some modern musical theatre.

The show overall stayed on theme and was well-scripted. However, even the absurdist comedy pushed the boundaries when Zella jumped into the pool for no apparent reason, except perhaps because it was there (and why not, if you’re lucky enough to have an actual pool on your stage?). After getting out of the pool, she delivered her final lines while holding the mic (which she’d removed before going in the pool) too close to her mouth, unfortunately distorting her words and leaving them grating and unclear. In such a small venue, she would probably be better off relying on her own projection skills at the end.

Overall, this is a funny, quirky, and entertaining show, in an absolutely stunning venue!
