I was highly anticipating seeing this show because I’m a huge fan of Nick Cave, and I also really enjoyed seeing Ukulele Death Squad at the Fringe a few years ago.  Performing once again at the Grace Emily Hotel, the line-up this evening was different from when I remembered first seeing the band, featuring three vocalists, and two ukulele players, who also sang.  The show started with an acapella rendition of “The Good Son”, and from that moment, I knew I would be in for a treat.  The vocalists had such beautiful, emotive voices, that perfectly complemented each other and the ukuleles (one of which was a bass).  They took it in turns to feature in songs such as “Red Right Hand”, “The Ship Song”, and “Where The Wild Roses Grow”.  Two stand out covers were “Stagger Lee” and “Palaces of Montezuma” which Ukulele Death Squad completely slayed!  This was not your ordinary tribute show – this was a sublime unique execution of classic Nick Cave songs that anyone would enjoy, not just diehard fans.  Absolutely outstanding, a must see – if I could give it 6 stars, I would!!
