It’s another hot Adelaide Fringe evening as we nervously scurry into the Spiegeltent, not wanting to be late. Everyone knows what happens to latecomers who arrive after a comedian has started their set. Yes, Jimeoin did not disappoint. Latecomers are welcomed the way a comedian can only do — they become part of the act. Arrive late at your peril or not? What did I love about his show? Jimeoin can stroll onto the stage and deliver jokes as if he just made them up then and there. His natural ability to improv is what makes him brilliant. He makes comedy appear effortless. His chill nature on stage drew me. I felt myself leaning forward, eagerly waiting to hear what he would say next. Thinking, ‘make me laugh!’ He did! The whole audience was laughing constantly. I found Jimeoin’s comedy relatable; as I looked around the audience, people laughed and nodded. Strangers were nodding at one another, bonding over awkward daily scenarios we find ourselves doing. Nothing is sacred in this set. Get ready to laugh at things you usually wouldn’t find funny, well, unless you’re at a Jimeoin Fringe event. Jimeoin is just so laid back. His performance makes it feel like you’re in a pub with your mates, and he’s relaying daily life scenarios. You know, the ones we tend to keep to ourselves, however funny they are? He brings them out and airs them for us all to laugh at, or is that with? Finally, this was what I was waiting for. It seems not even Jimeoin’s kids are immune to dad jokes. Oh yes, he has a book full of them! Our children may roll their eyes. However, they haven’t heard a Jimeoin dad joke.
