You’ve probably heard of stand-up comedy, but how often have you watched sit-down comedy? Vladimir McTavish and Gill Cordiner have returned to this year’s Adelaide Fringe with their talk show styled performance. Hats off to both McTavish and Cordiner for showing up and not cancelling the show, as it was 41 degrees and they had to sit in a shipping container.
The two poked fun at the heat throughout the entire performance, and our numbers. There were only 7 of us in the audience, unusual for a weekend. The show felt really like a 1 on 1 session with both comedians talking to everyone in the audience. Their thick Scottish accents made the show so much funnier. Their improvisation skills excelled; they did not look like they were following a script at all.
My biggest takeaway was that I am determined to now see Gill Cordiner live. She was phenomenal and always had the audience laughing (Gill Cordier’s solo show is called Pinky Swears – on at the Rhino Room). It felt like a Gill Cordiner show with guests. That isn’t me trying to take away anything from the show, I just think Gill brought the host energy.
During the show they brought out Chris Pucillo and Paul Savage for a talk. Vladimir and Gill work with anyone they are put with clearly, as the four of them together were just pumping out jokes like there was no tomorrow. I think Vladimir and Gill should start a podcast together as they work well together and again, their Scottish accents make it so much more hilarious.
It was awesome to see Vladimir and Gill back in South Australia. McTavish and Cordiner bounce off each other making the show feel like a conversation full of laughs. This will be a show I will be returning to see if it comes back next year.
