Englishman, Richard Marsh has created this wonderful, passionate, playful show which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 to critical and audience acclaim and returned there in 2023. This year is Adelaide’s turn.

The show is essentially a retelling or more specifically a reenactment of the film Die Hard by a huge fan of the movie. It includes a redemptive tale of a personal relationship woven into the thread of the narrative. Richard’s effective use of props and ‘special effects” during the show is hilarious.

Whether the original relationship tale is true or not doesn’t matter as it captures our imagination and raises this show above a typical parody and made me want to see the movie again soon. This is a very professional show and Richard has worked with an accent coach to deliver a perfect recreation of the characters in the movie.

The dialogue that Richard uses is all in rhyme and except for the subject matter, you might think this is a brilliant adaptation of a Shakespeare play. The timing of the music, lights and audio used in the performance was impeccable and cannot be faulted.

Richard is a talented actor and writer and I would love him to bring his musical version of “Son of Rambow” to the Adelaide Fringe next year. It has a similar feel to this show and is a coming-of-age story about two schoolboys and their attempts to make an amateur film inspired by First Blood.
