With a dashing Scottish accent and a whimsical charm, Kevin Quantum presents a brilliant hour long show that melds magic with science.
Starting his career as a research scientist, Kevin rose to fame on the UK show Faking It. Following this Kevin undertook a career change and focused on his magic, studying under the greats, such as Penn and Teller. Fast forward to today, and Kevin’s Fringe show, And For My Next Trick is a brilliant showcase of magic, showmanship and humour.
In this whirlwind show, Kevin Quantum performs trick after trick, all under time limits. With the assistance of an audience member who manages a changing count-down clock, Kevin races against the clock to perform an impressive selection of tricks that leave the audience flabbergasted.
For this reviewer, it was the tricks where Kevin combined his love of science with magic that were most impressive — especially the coloured sand dissolving into water and then being pulled out. As a magic buff (and the annoying person that has to pick every trick apart until I know how it’s done), I’m still trying to wrap my head around this one!
When you rely on audience participation and energy, it’s hard to give a show your all when they are quiet and reserved. The Sunday night audience at the show I attended was rather ‘polite’ and this did seem to affect Kevin’s overall energy levels and he came across as rather flustered at times.
Keep your eyes out for more from Kevin Quantum. His 2024 Fringe season is sadly over, but he is an impressive magician that is well worth adding to a ‘must see’ list next time he’s in town.
