Sea shanties. Men in kilts. Scottish accents.
Coming to Adelaide from a successful Edinburgh Fringe season; Tartan Tabletop brings their podcast to a live audience. Tartan Tabletop takes the audience through an imaginary world, rolling dice for success in this nautical themed quest. Four regular players invite a guest comedian to play Noblin the Goblin as part of their mystery quest in each session.
DnD knowledge is not required for the show as Dungeon Master Josh briefly explains the lay of the land to the (unfortunate) DnD naïve people in the room. An interesting party make up team which finds themselves on a ship after mutinying for a new captain. Our players; a weird combination of a nepo baby pirate, a rock salt barbarian who is desperately trying not to dissolve, a polished air ‘genie’, and an Eastern European mobster goblin (Nial, Lauren, Alex, and our guest comedian Sasha Simič) explore finding (yet another) new captain. This hour of hilarity is full of innuendos, pop culture references, puppets, humorous accents and “normal” (for a DnD party at least) magical adventures- including climbing into Brendan Fraser the Whale, a sewage factory, and Emus with AK47s.
The show was entertaining and full of wise (and not so wise) cracks that had the audience with full belly laughs throughout the show. Dungeon Master Josh keeps the game somewhat on track whilst attempting to move the storyline along and ensure audience engagements. The roleplay was funny and relevant; however the DnD literate audience may have appreciated spending some more time with our characters to allow more of the DnD aspect shine through. With each show different stories; you can be assured that there will be the same hilarious accents in different contexts.
