If you spent way too much time obsessing over musicals, Twilight, or both; Dusk: A Bite-Size Love Story should be on your list for an at home Fringe experience. Morgan Kennedy and Daniel Ruffing have concocted an original full length musical with entertaining moments, pop culture elements, and (most importantly) memes. Dusk tells the story of Bia Stork and Edwin Collins’s immortal romance; as told by Bia to her daughter R. Original “Twihards” will enjoy the little tributes (why can’t Bia use a ketchup bottle?), as well as iconic scenes like the baseball scene and the truck accident. These references that a casual viewer (like my Twilight naïve partner) may not understand but original Twihards will appreciate. The parody aspect of the show was strong, and punctuated by energetic choreography (including hilarious use of cast members in black morph suits) and flash forwards to R convincing Bia to tell more of her parents’ love story. Whilst key scenes from the original sources were included; unfortunately some did not make it into the show. Given the length of the show, this was a blessing in disguise as at almost two hours this is a long watch. Some songs and memes felt like they dragged on a little too long; sometimes at a detriment to the overall show. The performers themselves were talented, however the songs sometimes were a little dull and same-same. Whilst the filming was overall well done; there were some moments where lyrics or lines were lost in the sound mix; or where microphones were picking up extra sounds. With the ability to watch this show from home, grab your popcorn, dust off your Team Edward or Team Jacob merch, and settle in for a musical parody night of fun.
