What happens when the Doctor of Bubble-nomics blends his love of all things circular and soapy with his love of heavy metal music? Why, it’s the Heavy Metal Bubble Show of course. Kurt is branching out from his Adults Only Bubble show (and Kids Bubble show) to create this passion project which is still in its infant stage. As he mentions himself, he’s still trying to work it all out, but from what he delivered on Tuesday night made for some very interesting subject matter.

Although the bubbles are still prevalent in this show, they take a backseat here as Kurt regales us with his early life story of growing up in Alice Springs. It was there that he developed his love of Heavy Metal music, but being so far away from the big cities, the locals didn’t quite catch on to this heavier side of the music industry. He tells funny tales of dress-up party chaos, his life in London, and how he became a bubble maker, while sprinkled throughout the show, he constructs amazing bubble creations that either fit his stories or match the music being played (very loudly). Having seen the Adults Only Bubble Show and Kids Bubble Show many times, this is a side of Kurt I’d never seen before, and his knowledge of heavy metal music and the stories behind the bands, provide a fascinating insight into this often misunderstood world.

As many people would know, bubbles need the right temperature to work correctly, and on a dry 30+ degree day in the Gala room at The Austral, Kurt had to work mighty hard and very quickly to get his amazing creations to work, with some eye-opening results. If you think that every bubble created is round, come to this show and Kurt will show you otherwise. A wonderful mix of music, story and soapy substance, the Heavy Metal Bubble Show is not only entertaining but fascinatingly educational as well.
