The title of this stand-up show, A Jerk In Progress, while very clever is a misnomer – Victorian comedian David Rose is certainly no jerk and the show has almost reached its zenith of excellence needing to progress nearly no longer. Rose is a young comedian whom the older fraternity of Australian comedy need to watch out for. He is current; his material well-polished and (more importantly) funny; his banter is confident and smooth. It’s almost as if one has just walked into his living room and he is speaking only to you. It’s always hard to review comedians because you don’t want to spoil the jokes. Let’s just say that the show covers everything from Rose’s American girlfriend, his country background and family, through to what he refers to as ‘Progressive Racism’, a hilarious story concerning his Law Degree, Collingwood Football club and his girlfriend, and a good natured dig at having gone from doing stand-up in Melbourne on a stage to 300 people to coming to Adelaide and performing in a storage unit to a handful of people. Rose does drop the F-bomb and the C-missile occasionally, but in a cute and funny way. He is also very adept at different accents. The only trouble with A Jerk In Progress is that it is only on till this coming Sunday (3 March), so progress very quickly to The Sqeaker in Gluttony to see this very talented and funny jerk.
