[Theatre/Physical Theatre International World Premiere]
My Lover Cindi Tues 27 Feb 2024
Narie Foster had me already, even before the show started, with her admission of leaving the corporate world behind to pursue her passion for theatre. This engineer/successful entrepreneur chose to make a show out of her self-development, sharing her growth towards personal freedom.
While it could taste of motivational speaking, this is more honest and endearing, questioning everything rather than giving guidance. The clever costumes and props add to the fun. Some simple audience interaction establishes a bond, and we quickly see she is willing to lay her life bare.
Escaping the shadow of our parent’s expectations is something we may never completely achieve. When are we truly free? Being aware is the first step on that journey. Narie has a charmingly innocent way of reminding us that peace and freedom begin from within, and end there too. It’s something you can nurture and grow, just as she is only now beginning on her own exploration, with this her first full show.
Nevertheless she presents a polished performance with the strength of her authenticity. You may be a ragged patchwork of many identities, but they are all valid and need to be valued. Just as the chameleon only blends in to survive, she challenges us to claim our complete selves and thrive by showing how unique, special, and beautiful you are.
