A first-time producer, a brand new show and a venue outside of the main Fringe hubs may sound like quite a mountain to climb, but Sarah and the cast of Reminiscence made it work beautifully. It’s a show that is based on taking an introspective look inside yourself, using mirrors and reflective costumes to help tell its story. Part circus, part comedy, part aerial, Sarah managed to put together a cast of new and experienced talent to create a wonderful, light-hearted performance, which left the crowd feeling happy and upbeat from start to finish. Of course, being a first-time show, some things hit, and some things missed, and I think the weather elements may have played a small part in disrupting the flow of the fire act. But what I loved seeing was that no one froze or stopped if something didn’t go to plan. The show was executed in such a positive, affirming way that I felt myself smiling right until the end. Whether it was Sarah’s marvellous feats on the trapeze whilst blindfolded, Trixie swallowing fire, Leanne and Morgan wowing us on the lollipop lyra or Kristian with the comedy, this was the kind of show that didn’t need to be loud, obnoxious or boisterous to tell its story. Much like the performers themselves, Reminiscence created a warm, welcoming environment, which highlighted the artists amazing talents, and produced some eye-opening displays of skill. Reminiscence will keep getting better the more time it’s performed in front of a live audience. Young artists such as Dylan, Ailyn and Jessica will continue to develop with each show, while I always love seeing Morgan, Leanne, Trixie, and Paige perform because I consider them experts in their artistic fields. As for Sarah, I always knew she was a remarkable aerialist, but seeing her excel as a producer and all that it entails, makes me look forward to the next show that Life in the Air Productions will create.
